“what you're looking for may be
right around the corner”

Why Go Local?

Supporting local businesses has many benefits.  Among them are:

  1. Local businesses are owned by residents of the area and care about what happens to their community.
  2. Local businesses usually buy from other local businesses creating a “trickle effect”, keeping the flow of money within the region.
  3. Jobs and Wages- locally owned businesses create more jobs and provide better wages and benefits than do the national chains.
  4. Protect our local Character- Help maintain our community’s unique culture and flavor.
  5. Keep you Dollar local – your dollar has three times the impact on the community compared to a national chain.
  6. Local businesses give back to community groups and non profits agencies.
  7. Local businesses provide the unique local flavor that makes our community one of a kind and a great place to live and visit.

For every $100 spent in independently owned stores, $68 returns to the community through taxes, payroll and other expenditures.  If you spend that in a national chain, only $43 stays here. Spend it online and nothing comes here. Shopping locally for goods and services is economically beneficial for both the community and the local business owner.

The number of residents in Centre County for 2007 was 145,009 with 90% of the residents having internet access.  Let residents AND visitors know that your business is “right around the corner”.

What is so unique about  “Go Local State College.com” is that our site only supports companies that are privately or independently owned and operated. So if you are a Pennsylvania based business and is owned by a Pennsylvania parent company, Go Local is for you! Franchise owners who are not corporate owned are welcome to join as long as the owner lives within Pennsylvania.
